  • Clean frequently to save fuel
  • Avoid engineering and structural intervention to comply with IMOs CII regulations
  • No logistics, deviation, coordination or scheduling
  • Less than 250USD operation costs  per cleaning
  • Video replaces hull inspections

Clean proactively and save fuel.

A fouled hull leads to increased fuel consumption. Hull cleaning regains efficiency. Ships are designed to be in motion and not for idle time in port with deferred cleaning. ITCH allows you to proactively groom the hull before detecting the performance loss. Some of our clients’ procedures requires ITCH to be operated in the start of any long voyage.

How will you use it?

Forget downtime for the vessel.

Hull cleaning has until now been synonymous with idle time in port. Globally some ports are banning hull cleaning. The vessel may be diverted to an approved port.

Wouldn’t it make sense to clean during transit, while generating chartering revenues?

You should empower your seafarers to handle the hull efficiency and the planned use of ITCH should be implemented in the vessel’s Planned Maintenance Systems.

No logistics, deviation, coordination or scheduling.

ITCH has been thoroughly tested on ships lengths from 11-368meters and at speeds between 9-18 knots. Ambient conditions spreading from winds gusting at 26m/s and swell up to 4meters operated at any time of the day.

ITCH has been delivered to Oil tankers, Gas carriers, Bulk carriers, and Container freighters. Prevention is better than a cure and ITCH is used for frequent proactive removal of slime.

Macrofouling comes in many shapes and forms. Barnacles and other fouling causing hull roughness has been removed by ITCH.

Together we can solve your problems.

Let the crew operate and eliminate high costs contractors.

A fouled hull has been more acceptable than a dirty deck. Hull roughness has been more accepted than an inefficient power unit. The crew has tools and knowledge for cleaning the deck or optimizing the engine. ITCH introduces the toolbox for reducing  hull roughness.

The OPEX of ITCH can be two orders of magnitude less than in water hull cleaning by a 3rd party.

Your crew is available 24/7 !

Save hull inspection costs with onboard video camera.

With Shipshave’s ITCH you can document the hull condition before and after. The images from ITCH provides you with a status of the hull and paint.

Have you ever entered a dry dock equipped with images from the hull from the same day ?

Reduce Greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

Ship Owners are historically organized for maximum profit.

The Carbon Intensity Index (CII) will impact the incentives for saving fuel. Class societies and IMO will demand compliance.

Financial institutions and Charterers will only engage with sustainable entities operating efficient vessels.

On Jan. 1st 2023 an undisputable rating of the vessels will be available.

Avoid structural intervention to comply with IMOs CII regulations.

IMOs Carbon Intensity Index (CII) defines targets for fuel efficiency.

Engine power derating may be challenging once you are late for a port slot causing knock-on schedule effects. New bulbs, more efficient propellers, rotos-sails or bubble curtains may be efficient means to reduce consumption, all requiring engineering, Class approval and modifications to the vessel.

ITCH comes in a box; your crew carries it to the foredeck, and you are in business.

We believe that ITCH will be the least CAPEX intensive way to keep fuel consumption down.

Reduce spreading of invasive species.

The legislator’s focus on invasive species is shifting from ballast water to fouling.

Limitations are introduced by ports, nations, geo-regions, and IMO. ITCH disposes of (micro)fouling in deep oceans, not at your coast lines.

Every second of the operations is captured on video for your records.

Careers

Hull cleaning is under-used because it wears antifouling paint and is a hassle, expense and environmental exposure.

The excessive CO2 emissions due to poor hull performance are larger than emissions of many nations. Released biofouling is the largest distributor of alien species to shores. Working with us means changing the business models and technology. We are making hull performance green and data driven.

Shipshave is a platform for hull performance, not another cleaning robot company. We will expand to monitor and maintain hulls. Our business model is scalable because we are selling tools, not services. This allows us to reinvent hull performance rather than repeating job execution. You will advance the industry beyond IMOs 2030 fuel efficiency targets.

Shipshaves success depends on simplicity, reliability and sustainability in all our relations. Our projects are managed with in-the-hall-way decisions and easy access to full scale testing. You see results and thrive when we move fast. We are a small team with proven business development successes and financial resources. Our customer base is expanding with pilots and resales.

We will give responsibility and opportunity to grow with the company. Large companies develop career plans that hides slow pace. Joining a high growth company is how you accellerate your future.

Shipshave AS has commercialised and is manning up to fit the global footprint of shipping. Join us!

Empower your Captains to take charge of hull efficiency

Clean proactively and save fuel.

ITCH allows for proactively grooming of the hull before a performance loss is detected. Some of our clients’ operational procedures instructs ITCH operations to take place at the start of any long voyage.

Ensuring hull efficiency should be an integral part of your Planned Maintenance System.

Minimize vessel downtime.

Hull cleaning has until now required a stationary vessel. An increased number of ports are are prohibiting retroactive hull cleaning. In the future major ports will expect the vessel hull to arrive clean.

In transit cleaning is the way forward – grooming operations  while generating chartering revenues.

ITCH is the only  proven technology available.

No deviations, complex logistics nor scheduling.

Prevention is better than a cure and ITCH is used for frequent proactive removal of slime.

ITCH has been delivered to Oil tankers, Gas tankers, Bulk carriers, and Container carriers.

Macrofouling comes in many shapes and forms. Barnacles and other fouling causing hull roughness has been removed by ITCH.

Together we can solve your problems.

Let your crew operate and eliminate high costs contractors.

Why is a fouled hull more acceptable than a dirty deck?

Why has hull roughness been more accepted than an inefficient main engine?

Your seafarers has the means to cleaning the deck and service the main engines. ITCH will provide them with the toolbox for reducing  hull roughness.

Your seafarers are available 24/7 !

Save hull inspection costs with onboard video camera.

With Shipshave’s ITCH you can document the hull condition before and after. The images from ITCH provides you with a status of hull integrity and the paint.

Have you ever fine tuned the dry dock planning with subsurface images obtained on the day of entering the yard ?

Reduce Greenhouse gas emissions.

IMO’s Carbon Intensity Index will impact the incentives for saving fuel along with Green taxonomy of the EU.

Financial institutions and Charterers will only engage with sustainable entities operating efficient vessels.

From Jan. 1st 2023 an undisputable rating of the vessels will be defined. Are you prepared to mitigate Charterer’s operational impact on your CII?

Avoid structural modifications to comply with IMOs CII regulations.

Engine power derating may be challenging once you are late for a port slot causing knock-on schedule effects. New bulbs, more efficient propellers, rotor-sails or bubble curtains may be efficient means to reduce consumption, all requiring engineering, Class approval and modifications to the vessel.

Sustainability

Protect our coastlines

Traditional In-water-hull-cleaning disposes of non-indigenous fouling spieces near land disturbing costal ecosystems. All cleaning systems leaves residue, making fouling containment an illusion.

Shipshave ITCH cleans and disposes far from shores, not disturbing local ecosystems.

Your benefits of the new business model are:

  • Avoid 3rd party service charges
  • Avoid discussions with port on permits
  • Allows proactive cleaning in transit, once fuel inefficiency has been identified

Hull grooming

Preventive hull cleaning reduces the risk of transporting species between aquatic biotopes. Grooming proactively must be performed with a high frequency. Only ITCH does not bring the fouling in harbour, eliminating the risk for non-approval of cleaning permits.

Antifouling paint

The primary barrier against fouling is antifouling paint. Biocides like copper repel biofouling. A hard handed in-port cleaning operation wears the antifouling. Plastics and biocides may then accumulate in the costal sediments. ITCH will only release inactive antifouling paint and not concentrate residue in harbours.

CO2 emissions and CII

CO2 emissions are cut with reduced fuel consumption from a ship with a clean hull.

Hull Performance

CII demands continous improvement

IMO regulations forces better fuel efficiency. Ships may have to limit engine power, meaning less transport capacity and less revenue.

Hull performance is typically  monitored by logging of an inaccurate method – “noon figures”. With ITCH on board, the vessel can be clean mid-voyage which allows for monitoring before & after in identical cargo- and ambient conditions.

ITCH enables witnessing the results post operations, with actual footage from the installed camera.

Seafarers should handle operational hull cleaning, while the Performance team focuses on higher level issues.

Hydrodynamics

Hull fouling increases viscous resistance. ITCH is a proactive measure to prevent establishment of fouling.

Powerful cleaning systems can increase the paint roughness. Rough paint increases hull drag. ITCH use soft brushes, defined forces and few cleaning strokes to avoid wear of the antifouling.

Ships may downrate engines to comply with IMO CII regulations. ITCH will help you maintain transit speed.

Timing

ITCH is ready for hull cleaning when you are

In Transit Cleaning of Hulls

Working principle

Shipshave ITCH consists of a semi-autonomous hull cleaning robot tethered to a portable winch on the forecastle deck. The robot harvests propulsion energy to stay attached to the hull and swipe up and down. Soft brushes clean the hull under water using a defined pattern with controlled brush forces.

Shipshave ITCH should be used before fouling becomes a real problem. It has however also proven to remove settled fouling.

Rig up

The Shipshave ITCH system is hand-carried by the seafarers. Before operations commence, the winch should be secured to a strong point on the forecastle deck, connected to a power source and the ITCH robot tied at the end of the rope.

We aim for the ITCH to as easy to rig up as a high-pressure cleaning system.

Proactive grooming vs. retroactive cleaning

ITCH is designed to remove early stage biofouling.

The controlled force and soft brushes cause minimal wear to antifouling paint, allowing more frequent cleaning. Shipshave also has a modular system that removes barnacles without paint damage.

This image of ITCH v.1 on a downstroke clearly shows the cleaned area above the unit and the adjacent untouched  establised biofouling. The image is from a Platform Supply Vessel operated for 3 years since the previous hull cleaning.

Operation

The seafarers should power up the ITCH robot. Deploy the lightweight ITCH robot using the winch. Once one side has been completed, the ITCH robot should be retrieved and the settings changed between port/starboard.  Repeat the operation on the fouled side.

The integrated video camera can be used to document the robots cleaning performance. The data capture system records the robots cleaning coverage which can be evaluated using the ITCH Application.

This simple process allows your seafarers to clean a Handy-size hull in just 5 hours while sailing to the next destination.

Environment

Shipshave ITCH allows the seafarers to clean the hull and dispose removed fouling far from shores. Fouling does not affect coast lines when you clean at mid-ocean. Frequent cleaning with videos documents your fouling status and can ease communication with port authorities.

Benefits

  • Low CapEx investment to comply with IMOs CII
  • Clean proactively and save fuel
  • Avoid off-hire deviations to approved ports for cleaning
  • No scheduling nor complex logistics required
  • OPEX well below 250USD per cleaning
  • Inspection the hull with onboard video camera

Risk and limitations

Low weight and hydrodynamic efficiency makes ITCH  safe to deploy. ITCH cannot reach the propeller by design. The low weight means even direct impact will not affect a propeller. Shipshave can clean the foreship, but not the bulb. It will clean near to the propeller, but not the rudder. Typically you may cover about 80-90% of the parallell area.

Shipshave delivers two types of portable winch systems.  An explosion-proof pneumatic version, or a frequency controlled electrical winch.

We are confident that the ITCH can go longer and deeper than already verified.
